The UX Designer is responsible for working with eBusiness teams and internal customers to research and analyze web user tasks and interaction patterns; conceptualize, prototype, and design web user interfaces that help optimize the user experience; code user interfaces using CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript (in conjunction with front-end developers), and other standard technologies for web and mobile experiences; optimize designs for performance and accessibility; support and control the use of styles and branding; and support efficient and simple content authoring methods.
Job Essentials
Conceptualizes and creates engaging and highly usable designs for standard browser and mobile web pages, applications and features using Adobe Creative Suite, plain text editors, CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, and related technologies.
Designs include all components of a website’s look and feel and interactivity, including style libraries, page layouts, navigation schemes, artistic/graphical elements, treatment of photography and other types of images, animations and video display, etc.
Transforms design prototypes into CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, and related technologies that can be implemented in a web content management system, that are cross-browser and multi-device compatible, that help maximize page load speed and performance, that strive to be Section 508 accessibility compliant, and adhere to branding and style guidelines.
Works collaboratively with other eBusiness team members including business analysts, content consultants, software developers, and management, all of whom share responsibility for assessing client needs, defining requirements, designing websites and applications, implementing front-end and back-end code, testing, and evaluating areas of improvement.
Objectively listens and responds to customer and team feedback with a desire to continually enhance the user experience and team success.
Manages multiple simultaneous projects, assignments, and deadlines. Is highly-organized and detail-oriented. Works with minimal supervision and is a self-starter.
Consistently researches new technologies, methods, usability and accessibility best practices to proactively develop solutions that enhance the user experience.
Communicates effectively with team members and customers in person and through documentation to convey ideas, concepts and rationale for designs and methods.
This position will work with confidential and proprietary information that requires a signed IT Employee Invention and Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in web design, human interactions, digital communications or information technology plus one or more years of work experience as a web front-end designer and developer as described in the position purpose, including demonstrable experience with CSS, HTML, XHTML, and graphic and artistic design using Adobe Creative Suite and plain text editors -OR- five or more years of work experience as a web front-end designer and developer as described in the position purpose, including demonstrable experience with CSS, HTML, XHTML, and graphic and artistic design using Adobe Creative Suite and plain text editors. Intermountain Healthcare verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.
Demonstrated work experience developing on the major browsers and browser versions and on the major web and mobile platforms, including testing and resolving issues across major browsers and platforms.
Experience designing and testing front-end code for page load speed and rendering performance.
Demonstrated experience researching, testing and implementing design-related best practices and coding methods for usability, accessibility, navigation design, and search engine optimization.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, is a self-starter and highly-organized and detail-oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within content management systems
Familiarity and experience with responsive design
Experience with front-end development including JavaScript
