This position is responsible for assisting the Heart Center leadership team in coordinating and implementing Heart Center quality activities. These activities include establishing clinical care protocols and metrics to ensure clinical best practices. In addition, she/he will integrate with individual research coordinators for innovative care models. This position reports directly to the Heart Center Steering Committee.

Job Essentials

1. Oversight of Heart Center infection prevention program

Act as Heart Center clinical lead to coordinate with PCMC infection control and systems improvement on Heart Center infection prevention initiatives

2. Web Event Report Analysis & Management

Receive and evaluate event reports referred from the Quality Resource Department.

Review with involved staff to clarify event documentation and accurate details not documented on the event report, as appropriate.

Review medical record as appropriate.

Present evaluation to Heart Center Quality Committee for further evaluation.

Conduct periodic analysis to determine trends.

3. Other Quality Data Analysis & Management

Coordinate with Heart Center Leadership and Heart Data Center to ensure accurate tracking and retrieval methods are in place for clinical indicator reports (dashboard information including, volumes, length of stay, extubation times etc.)

Coordinate with Heart Center Leadership and Heart Data Center with individual Heart Center departments regarding data tracking and submission to national databases (STS, IMPACT, NCDR-ICD).

Review of other specified quality event criteria or triggers (i.e. codes, rapid response activations, unplanned transfers, etc.).

Coordinate with cardiac nursing educators to educate nursing staff on quality initiatives.

Coordinate the implementation of corrective action plans or improvement strategies.

Present events analysis summary to Heart Center leadership

4. Quality Review Committee Participation

Participate in and help coordinate the bi-weekly quality review meetings, may include preparation of agenda, agenda packet materials (data collection/analysis summaries) and minutes.

Communicate or refer specific issues/concerns to the Heart Center Steering Committee

Participate on assigned hospital quality committees (i.e., code committee, rapid response team committee) or project teams as specified by the Heart Center Steering Committee.

5. Research

Interface and integrate with individual section/division research coordinators to develop innovative care models.

6. Professional Development

Identify quality improvement interests and learning opportunities.

Participate in locally sponsored quality or patient safety conferences or training.

Review of current quality improvement and patient safety literature.

Review of other top Cardiac Program care models as a metric of our future goals.

Minimum Requirements

Current Registered Nurse License in state of Utah

One or more years of clinical nursing experience

Experience in assigned clinical area

Mentoring experience

Basic computer skills

Physical Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

Hospital Quality Nursing experience

Cardiology RN work experience in a hospital setting
