“Wash your hands!” It’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce infections and maintain health. It’s true at home—and in hospitals. However, the national average for hand-hygiene compliance in hospitals is only 40 percent.
Intermountain far exceeds that average, but we’re always working to improve the level of care our patients receive, right down to the cleanliness of hands. As part of a new campaign, visitors and Intermountain employees now see reminders at each of our hospitals, encouraging them to wash or sanitize their hands.
“While it may sound trite, the reminder to wash your hands bears repeating,” says Nancy Nowak, RN, Intermountain’s vice president of Clinical Operations and chief nursing officer. “By washing our hands regularly, we help prevent the spread of illness and infection to ourselves, our coworkers, and our patients.”
We’re displaying reminder posters in our facilities. You can print and post these posters in your home, schools, or anywhere people could use a reminder to keep their hands clean. Sixteen different signs are available for download by employees and the public online.
