Intermountain uses a model to plan its capital expenditures, consisting of numerous factors including use rates, facility ages, competition, and the changing needs of the population served by a facility.
Each facility's Governing Board and management are responsible for updating the plan for their facility. Each plan is then incorporated into a master plan for the entire organization. Hospital, regional, or division management must present the case for proposed major capital expenditures to the Finance Department at the Central Office, which is responsible for creating the system-wide plan and for balancing the needs of all Intermountain facilities with sources of funds. Final approval of capital projects is given by the Intermountain Board.
