Dimension of Care: Operational Effectiveness

Intermountain's Supply Chain Organization

We innovate to support best care and sustainable costs.

Intermountain’s Supply Chain Organization assures products and services are delivered with maximum efficiency and benefit to our patients and those who care for them.

Innovation is not only pursued in Intermountain’s clinical operations; it’s a daily preoccupation in every other area of our organization as well. Case in point is Intermountain’s Supply Chain Organization, which assures products and services are delivered with maximum efficiency and benefit to our patients and those who care for them.

From its base in Midvale, Utah, our Supply Chain Organization continually searches for new ways to boost efficiency throughout the Intermountain system. In 2013, Supply Chain introduced Logical Unit of Measure (LUM) ordering, which allows individual nursing stations, clinics, and work areas to receive the right amount of supplies at the right time. The LUM ordering technique improves patient care by freeing up clinicians’ time and allows for effective inventory monitoring on 6,000 of the most critical items. More than 2.5 million medical items are distributed annually by Supply Chain.

Our Supply Chain also leads Intermountain’s environmental sustainability efforts. Intermountain has switched many of its vehicles to natural gas, reduced vehicle mileage, and enhanced our recycling program.
