Challenges of changing to a healthier lifestyle

Many people make New Years Resolutions, but not many of them are able to carry them throughout the year for one reason or another. The challenges people face when trying to make those healthier choices can sometimes put the brakes on success. But as the My Heart Challenge participants reported in this week, they shared their biggest challenge with the competition so far. We have complete faith in the 15 school principals and their ability to overcome their challenges - because they have great support from students, faculty, staff, family and friends.

As a cardiologist at the Intermountain Heart Institute at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, I get the great pleasure of having people come up to me all the time and ask me what they can do to “protect their hearts." For example, I was at a social function yesterday and someone asked me, “What can I do so that I never have to see you in your office?” I absolutely love it when people ask me this type of a question as it shows their commitment to living a healthy lifestyle.​
