It's not easy to change behaviors that have been established over many years. Cutting down on the Mountain Dews, finding motivation to exercise or taking the time to eat breakfast are some of the biggest challenges the 15 firefighters are facing in the 2014 My Heart Challenge.

There is no magic exercise.  It takes work getting in shape and getting healthy, but is it worth it?  Absolutely!  Exercise has been directly linked with a decrease in blood pressure, cholesterol, body fat, risk of disease, anxiety and depression.  It has also been linked with an increase in mood and sense of body!​

Walking is a heart-healthy activity

Getting out of your office for even a few minutes to go walking is a great way to get your heart pumping. Principal John Erlacher, Newman Elementary School, has decided to go walking with his students just before lunch every school day. It gets him, and his students, making active and healthy choices on a daily basis, and helps everyone get more heart healthy.
