I am excited to be working with the 15 firefighters participating in the 2014 My Heart Challenge, sponsored by the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute. But why should the firefighters be the only ones to benefit with nutrition tips? I'm planning to share a weekly nutrition tip throughout the Challenge, offering you a simple way to make those little changes in how and what you eat that will make a big difference in your heart health.

Many individuals on the autism spectrum do not even have the use of basic gestures to help them get their needs across. They may rely on more primitive gestures such as grabbing, pulling and reaching toward wanted items. This puts a lot of pressure on the communication partner to come up with what the individual is trying to communicate, so learn some alternative ways in which you can do so.

Hayden Peak Elementary Principal Diena Riddle invited a local charter school's jump rope team to perform for an assembly to help get her students excited about doing heart-healthy activities - and the kids were amazing. Jumping rope is a simple activity that the whole family can do, according to experts at the Intermountain Heart Institute at Intermountain Medical Center.​​​
