Words of Appreciation

  • Jonni's experience in the E.R.

We had our Father's Day ...

We had our Father's Day dinner at my house this year, and suddenly at dinner, my mom Donna, who worked in the Snack Bar here at LDS until it closed, began having some chest pains along with some difficultly breathing. My brother who is a dentist asked my mom if her arm was hurting. She said no, but suddenly she began to throw up. He decided he was going to take her to the ER up at the U. of U. I sternly said, NO - you will take her up to LDS.

He brought her up here, and was helped very quickly and lovingly. My mother is usually a reluctant patient and was very nervous. But those who took care of her gave her great care. I don't know the names of the ER team, but I do know that my mom's longtime friend Carlos Vega in Endoscopy calmed her fears immediately when he walked in the room. She was so glad to see her friends; she said later that all her fears left her because she knew she would be taken care of by people she knew. She is just fine. No problems - apparently the problem was just my cooking. I love this hospital and the people who work here!

In July of last year I fell and tore both ACL's. After surgery and having an extended stay in the hospital, I was released to physical therapy. I was lucky enough to have Brad Zollinger as my physical therapist.

What a wonderful person, he knew when to push and when to let me be. I cannot begin to express how fortunate I was to have him help me.
    Thank you

  • John's sedation MRI experience

Yesterday at 11:30 I arrived at the hospital and went through all of the paperwork and registration procedures. Registration was a good experience and done with care and courtesy. Someone from the MRI area came out and took me back to a bed where we filled out more paperwork and was interviewed more. They had me dress properly and put in an intravenous line. The nurse tested the line to make sure it was working asking if I could taste a metallic flavor, which I did. During my time there I was impressed with how young these people are. The young lady that came and talked to me about the procedure explained that under sedation I would not be completely out as I would with anesthesia and would be aware of what was going on. She along with others completely walked me through what was going to happen (I was about to back out) and assured me that if at anytime I wanted to stop they would do so.

They took me into the room with the big new GE MRI and moved my very anxious body onto the machine. The room was nice and cool which was very helpful. Every consideration was made to make me feel comfortable, a warm blanket was put on my legs, ear plugs were put in my ears and the uncomfortable face mask was replaced with a cannula in my nose.

In just a few moments I was near out and I remember starting to travel into the MRI and then I was out. About 15 min before the procedure ended I started to wake up with a right arm that was hurting. They let me move the arm a bit to help it and asked me to hang on for about 10 more minutes. I was uncomfortable and with a little anxiety they were able to complete the procedure.

After it was over they wheeled me on the MRI cart back to my bed and took care of me while I continued to wake up. The turkey sandwich on wheat bread was excellent, along with the applesauce and juice. My wife ate the Sun Chips and I drank cola.

What a wonderful ending to a day beginning with much anxiety.

  • George's experience in the E.R.

My experience began in the ER area, where I was just lucky, I guess, because I was immediately seen and evaluated by a Dr. Org and helped by a Mr. Tranter. Dr. Org was especially kind to my wife in explaining his evaluation of my needs. He genuinely seemed to care about my health. Yet everyone in the ER treated me competently, seriously, and caringly, with amazing patience and speed for the condition I was in. My G.I. was called in, and came right over, and assessed my condition. The decision was then made to admit me immediately to the hospital, and my wife received much appreciated support and graciousness during that process.
