Alta View Hospital — A tradition of healing for 30 years with many more to come
It seems like it was just yesterday that we celebrated Alta View Hospital’s 25th anniversary. Another five years has passed since then and in January we’ll kick off a year of celebrating three decades of service to the community. I look back fondly at 2006, when I was named the hospital’s seventh administrator. I was excited to build on our tradition of serving the community and looked forward to establishing more traditions in the years that followed. I still feel that way today.
We’ve grown up a lot over the last 30 years. We’ve celebrated many great accomplishments and we look forward to many more in the years to come. Here are some fun facts about where the hospital started on January 7, 1982, and where we are now.
Alta View Hospital in 1982
- Number of beds: 46
- Number of employees: 220
- Physicians on medical staff: 70
- Building size: 67,000 square feet
- Cost to build: $10.9 million
Alta View Hospital in 2011
- Number of beds: 80
- Number of employees: 650
- Physicians on medical staff: 740
- Babies born: 1,256
- Outpatient visits: 4,767
- Charity care provided: $5.4 million
It’s hard to believe, but we’ve delivered 53,000 babies and performed 179,000 surgeries since we opened our doors. It’s amazing to see how medicine has changed in the last 30 years. When the hospital opened, Sandy was a growing community with a lot of young families. Now Sandy is seeing a shift in it’s population with more seniors living in our community. That’s one reason why we opened our senior clinic in 2010.
We’ve also seen great improvements in our medical equipment and specialties since we opened. For example, you can see many of the improvements firsthand in our Imaging department where we now have two state-of-the-art CT scanners, an MRI, and the ability to perform outpatient cardiac imaging procedures.
The last 30 years have been great! We’ve watched Alta View Hospital grow from a small hospital to a thriving community hospital with established programs that continue to grow to meet the needs of a changing community. Thank you for all that you’ve done to help us serve the community for the last 30 years. We have a lot to be thankful for as we begin our fourth decade, and we look forward to many more years of serving the community.
