What is Leukemia (Blood Cancer)?

Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, the spongy center of bones where our blood cells are formed. The Acute Leukemia Program at LDS Hospital is a highly specialized program that collaborates with other leukemia centers across the nation to offer state-of-the-art services to patients. This collaboration ensures high-quality care to all patients who come to our program for treatment. Complex treatment often require intensive up-front therapy, sophisticated support, dedicated staffing, and readily available access to sub-specialist consults.

Research has shown that a shorter time interval between diagnosis and treatment is beneficial and improves outcomes for the patient. Our team can begin treatment within 24 hours of diagnosis — even on holidays and weekends.
