What is Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer?

The skin is the largest organ of the body, serving to cover and protect the internal organs. Cancer occurs when cells grow uncontrolled. When this happens in the basal or squamous cells of the skin, it is called non-melanoma skin cancer. This is different than skin cancers that start in the melanocytes, which is called melanoma. Non-melanoma is the most common type of cancer diagnosed.
