Conveniently located near the hospital’s main entrance in the Multi-Specialty Clinic, the American Fork Hospital Sleep Lab provides a specific range of diagnostic and treatment procedures for obstructive and central sleep apnea, narcolepsy and pathological daytime sleepiness. The American Fork Hospital Sleep Lab is the only Intermountain Healthcare sleep facility in Utah County.
The Sleep Lab offers patients four private and comfortable sleep rooms equipped with the latest testing system for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The lab is operated by sleep certified technologists and technicians who utilize specific testing procedures to make sure each patient is properly diagnosed and treated.
The Sleep Lab offers day and night sleep studies and portable monitoring for the diagnosis and treatment of:
- Snoring that affects approximately 45 percent of the adult population and may be an indicator of a serious breathing problem during sleep.
- Sleep apnea. Apnea means “want of breath” in Greek. An apnea can last as long as 10 seconds or longer, per episode. Those with severe cases of apnea may stop breathing hundreds of times during their sleep.
- Narcolepsy, which is a relatively uncommon sleep disorder that involves the body’s central nervous systems and characterized by attacks of sleep. Narcoleptics are liable to fall asleep at inappropriate times and places.
- Insomnia, which is a sleeping disorder characterized by persistent difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep despite the opportunity.
- Daytime sleepiness, which is characterized by persons with daytime sleepiness who are compelled to nap repeatedly during the day, often at inappropriate times such as at work, during a meal, or in conversation.
- WorkMed sleep evaluations, which focus on industrial and employment-related care.
- Mask Fitting and CPAP clinic, which is intended for American Fork Hospital Sleep Lab patients with obstructive sleep apnea who use a CPAP mask and machine.
The American Fork Hospital Sleep Lab operates under the direction of pulmonologist Dixie Harris, M.D., an American Board of Sleep Medicine-certified sleep medicine specialist.
