Physical therapy can help reduce pain, and improve mobility and flexibility in patients with hip problems. Our Bear River Valley Hospital Physical Therapy department is staffed with physical therapists and other professionals who have years of experience in helping hip patients. We are confident that we can get you up and moving soon after a total hip replacement. Our physical therapists can also help if you have experienced any of the following conditions:
- Surgery (total hip replacement)
- Sprains and strains
- Hip fractures
- Osteonecrosis of the Hip
There are many different treatment options for individuals with hip problems. We will work with you to determine the cause of your pain and a specialized physical therapy plan. Our physical therapists often use ice and heat to minimize pain and swelling. Ultrasounds and other therapeutic modalities are sometimes used to relax tight muscles and increase blood flow to muscles. We can also help to reduce stiffness and increase your flexibility with specific stretching exercises for the hip. In order to strengthen muscles and avoid re-injury, we promote exercise with the use of our gravity training system, balance training and specialized ellipticals. Because we do a lot of patient education, our patients learn stretching and exercise techniques so they can use them in an at home setting.
