Intermountain Healthcare Honored for Supply Chain Management: Improving Healthcare Quality While Minimizing Costs

3/12/2013

The ECRI Institute has named Intermountain Healthcare among the eight winners of its annual Healthcare Supply Chain Achievement Award. ECRI Institute representatives made the presentation, which honors organizations that demonstrate excellence in overall spend management and in adopting best practice solutions in their supply chain processes.

Intermountain's Supply Chain Organization is recognized as a leader in efforts to reduce supply costs by specifying, purchasing, and distribution supplies wisely, as well as by effectively providing a range of support services. These efforts saved an estimated $55 million in 2012.

"As a non-profit healthcare provider, Intermountain is committed to finding and implementing strategies that will enable us to offer our patients the highest quality care at the lowest sustainable cost," said Brent Johnson, Intermountain's VP Supply Chain Organization and Chief Purchasing Officer.

Intermountain was selected from nearly 2,500 hospitals and health systems that subscribe to ECRI Institute's PriceGuide™ and SELECTplus™ supply and capital procurement advisory services. The ECRI Institute is an independent nonprofit that researches the best approaches to improving patient care.

"The winning supply chain teams reflect practices that will enhance their value and role in the overall strategy of their organizations, helping to reduce utilization and readmissions while achieving better outcomes," said Jennifer Myers, ECRI Institute's Vice President of SELECT health technology services.

Other winners this year included: Catholic Healthcare East, Fletcher Allen Partners, Health Care Authority for Baptist Health, Mountain States Health Alliance, University of California San Francisco Medical Center, WellStar Health System, and Yankee Alliance, Inc.
