What is Myeloma?

Myeloma is a type of cancer that begins in the bone marrow and affects the plasma cells. Cancer occurs when cells grow uncontrolled. There are several types of Myeloma. You can learn more from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The Intermountain Team

Many of our myeloma patients are treated at the Intermountain Acute Leukemia Program at LDS Hospital​. The program collaborates with other centers across the nation to offer state-of-the-art services to patients. This collaboration ensures high-quality care to all patients who come to our program for treatment. Complex treatment algorithms often require intensive up-front therapy, sophisticated tertiary support, dedicated staffing, and readily available access to sub-specialist consults.

Research has shown that a shorter time interval between diagnosis and treatment is beneficial and improves outcomes for the patient. Our team can begin treatment within 24 hours of diagnosis — even on holidays and weekends.

We also offer many additional services for cancer patients. While these many not be located within each hospital, every Intermountain Healthcare cancer patient has access to these services, regardless of where you have surgery or treatment.
