Why do I have multiple bills?
You may receive more than one bill from Intermountain for services received at the Heart Institute. Often, bills for physician services are sent separately from bills for hospital services.
You may also receive two bills after you are seen in one of our doctor’s offices or clinics. One bill, for nursing services, testing, supplies and utilities, will come from the hospital and have a hospital account number.
The second bill is for the outpatient visit provided by your physician. This bill will come from Intermountain Healthcare’s Physician Billing Department. Two separate charges – for services provided by your physician and those associated with the clinic – are consistent with Medicare and commercial insurance guidelines.
Why am I getting a bill from the Intermountain Heart Institute?
Some patients may get a bill from a physician at the Heart Institute, even though they did not have a scheduled appointment. Often these patients have had emergency services at our hospitals, which included heart testing such as an EKG. One of our heart specialists likely read and interpreted the EKG results.
