Welcome Kia Afshar, MD

Dr. Kia Afshar, Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist

The Heart Institute at Intermountain Medical Center welcomes Kia Afshar, MD to our Heart Failure, Transplant, and Artificial Heart Programs. Dr. Afshar's clinical interests include heart failure, transplant, and cardiac amyloidosis—a disorder caused by deposits of an abnormal protein (amyloid) in the heart tissue.

Dr. Afshar joins us from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he completed a fellowship in general cardiology, as well as an additional year of advanced heart failure and transplant training.

Dr. Afshar earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he graduated cum laude, and was honored as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Afshar is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography, and is eligible for his board exam in advanced heart failure and transplantation.

Dr. Afshar joins his partners, Drs. A.G. Kfoury, Deborah Budge, and Rami Alharethi. They are currently accepting new patients in all stages of heart failure and cardiomyopathy.

Welcome Michael Cutler, MD

Dr. Michael Cuter, Heart Rhythm Specialist

Intermountain Heart Institute is excited to welcome Michael Cutler, MD to our Heart Rhythm Program.

Dr. Michael Cutler is a native of Bountiful, Utah and most recently has been living in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his medical training and Ph.D. at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX.

Following his medical training, Dr. Cutler was accepted into the highly selective ABIM Physician Scientist Pathway Program at the MetroHealth Campus of Case Western Reserve University. During this time he completed clinical training in internal medicine, cardiology, and electrophysiology (the study of heart rhythm and electrical disorders of the heart).

Michael served as the Chief Cardiology Fellow for the final two years of his cardiology training. After completing residency and fellowship, Dr. Cutler accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the MetroHealth Campus of Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Cutler has published articles in esteemed research journals such as Circulation, Circulation Research, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science and Nature.
