Our mission is to optimize the comfort of each individual, protect their well-being, and provide a safe environment for their recovery.
In October of 2007, the Heart Surgery Program at LDS Hospital moved to Intermountain Medical Center, the new flagship hospital of Intermountain Healthcare. The reputation and experience of our program has earned us the status of being a major referral center for six surrounding states and more than 75 regional healthcare institutions. This tradition continues at our new location.
More Experience
There is no heart surgery that is clinically available in the United States that isn’t offered here at Intermountain Medical Center – along with excellent outcomes. Our program has the highest volume of heart surgeries in the State by a wide margin, meaning our surgeons and staff have an invaluable amount of experience that cannot be matched by any other center in the Intermountain region. Our operating room and inpatient facilities are brand new and equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art technology.
Better Outcomes
Our outcomes are continuously reviewed and rank well above reported national averages in all categories of heart surgery. Our surgeons are also active in clinical research and have partnered with interventional cardiologists to investigate less invasive techniques of treating certain heart diseases such as septal defects or valvular disease.
Patient Focused Care
Our surgery team is focused on making every individual feel safe and comfortable. We are constantly looking for ways to protect our patient’s well-being. We take time to educate each individual and their families, making sure they have a complete understanding of the surgery and the recovery involved.
After heart surgery, patients are cared for in the Thoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This 24-bed unit is staffed with caring, experienced nurses. In addition to their professional expertise, the unit is equipped with the most advanced electronic monitoring tools that ensure patient safety. In fact, the entire Intermountain system is ‘wired’ with electronic patient information, allowing our staff to more efficiently coordinate your medical care.
Pain management is also an important part of our Heart Surgery Program. We offer several therapies to manage each individual’s pain, including patient controlled IV medications. Our acute pain management service is also available to consult on complex patients who may have other sources of pain in addition to their recent heart surgery.
