Ronald Larkin, MD, recently received the 2013 William N. Jones Trustee of Excellence award in recognition of his volunteer leadership service as a trustee of Intermountain Healthcare.
Dr. Larkin was selected from among Intermountain's 450 volunteer trustees for the award, which is given annually to board members who have been exceptionally effective in helping Intermountain achieve its mission. This honor is named for Bill Jones, who chaired Intermountain Healthcare's board from its creation in 1975 until 1990. Intermountain trustees serve without pay and oversee Intermountain policies, goals, and expectations for management. They ensure Intermountain effectively strives to fulfill its mission of providing excellent healthcare to patients and to the community.
Since 1993, Dr. Larkin has been an Intermountain trustee in the Urban Central Region, covering Intermountain services in the Salt Lake Valley area. He served as chair of the Professional Standards and Credentials Committee for 15 years, as well as on the region's Executive Committee. During this time, Intermountain opened Intermountain Medical Center, built Riverton Hospital, and expanded Alta View Hospital and TOSH. As a board member and as chair of the Credentials Committee, Dr. Larkin provided wise and steady leadership during all these changes, which affected medical staffs at these hospitals.
Dr. Larkin is an OB-GYN who has delivered more than 10,000 babies in his long career. In addition to his dedication to his medical practice, Dr. Larkin has provided many years of devoted service to his church. He has also generously volunteered his time at community clinics, providing charitable care to patients in need.
