For nearly three years, the Logan Regional Cancer Center has brought healing home for hundreds of Cache Valley cancer patients who have been able to stay in Logan for world-class radiation oncology therapy and other cancer services. This month, Logan Regional’s Cancer Center was named a Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Center following an on-site visit and by a Huntsman-Intermountain review panel earlier this winter.

“I congratulate our hospital cancer services team on this designation,” said Michael A. Clark, Logan Regional Hospital CEO. “This recognizes the exceptional cancer technology, services, and high standard of care our physicians and healthcare professionals provide to our community.”

Logan Regional’s Cancer Center joins Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Centers throughout the state as part of an alliance combining Intermountain Healthcare’s clinical excellence and expertise with Huntsman Cancer Institute’s research capabilities. Other Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Centers are located at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, American Fork Hospital, Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, and Dixie Regional Medical Center in Saint George.

“Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Center designation shows Logan Regional meets rigorous criteria for cancer specialization, tumor board participation, outcomes research, and clinical trials participation,” said Paul Weight, director of Cancer Services at Logan Regional Hospital. “We have the concentrated services of Intermountain Healthcare combined with the power of the Huntsman Cancer Institute’s research model, brought together to treat cancer close to home in our community.“

Randall W. Burt, M.D., senior director of prevention and outreach, Huntsman Cancer Institute, was a member of the Huntsman-Intermountain review panel that came to Logan Regional in December. “It was a delight to visit the Logan Regional Cancer Center and review your facilities, physicians, and operations,” said Dr. Burt. “The commitment to outstanding cancer care and meeting the high bar of operational expectations for designation as a Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Center was palpable. Interacting with your cancer physicians was particularly enjoyable. Their excitement about providing the best patient care possible and solving difficult medical problems was contagious. Your facility is very impressive and obviously serves your community well.”

The Logan Regional Cancer Center held its grand opening in May 2008. Cancer patients at the center receive state-of-the-art radiation therapy and have access to a spectrum of cancer services, including chemotherapy, brachytherapy, surgery, the latest clinical trials, and a Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Education Center.
