At McKay-Dee Hospital Cancer Center, we strongly support the American Cancer Society prostate screening recommendations and encourage males to receive regular prostate exams after the age of 65. Prostate Cancer is the second most common cancer found in men and regular prostate cancer screenings are necessary to detect it. Males with a family history, certain risk factors or symptoms of prostate cancer are encouraged to discuss early or more frequent prostate screenings with their doctor.

Risk factors for prostate cancer include:

  • Men over the age of 65
  • Personal or family history of prostate cancer
  • Race
  • Prostate changes

Symptoms of prostate cancer include:

  • Urinary problems
  • Difficult having an erection
  • Blood in the urine or semen
  • Frequent pain in the lower back, hips or upper thighs

If you have questions about prostate cancer detection, symptoms or risk factors, visit the Cancer Education Center at McKay-Dee Hospital or call (801) 387-7484.
