McKay-Dee Sports Medicine at Stewart Rehab Center offers Pilates classes taught by a licensed physical therapist with extensive knowledge regarding muscle and joint anatomy, physiology, exercise intervention and treatment of injuries. These classes engage the participant in the fundamentals of breathing while challenging the body using dynamic movements around a stable spine. Pilates is an excellent way to resolve muscle imbalance, increase core strength, and improve posture, flexibility, and performance. Your Pilates sessions will be structured and tailored to your needs, making modifications as necessary for weak, injured, or stiff joints.
The Pilates program is for current patients, and is suggested for individual patients by the physical therapist. It is by appointment only, usually one time a week for 2 – 5 weeks or as your therapist sees fit.
What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on precision of movement through the mind-body connection using the principles developed by Joseph Pilates.
Pilates exercise programs are individually designed to develop symmetry of movement, increase strength, balance and coordination.
The foundation of movement begins with a stable and strong core. The “core” is defined by the abdominal, low back and pelvic musculature.
Who Can Benefit from Pilates?
All patients with varying degrees of fitness can greatly benefit from Pilates based therapy.
How Does Pilates Help Recovery?
