Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center
The Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center provides care for children and adolescents with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and related disorders.
Medical Director: Stephen L. Guthery, MD, MSc
Services provided under the direction of Primary Children's Medical Center and the University of Utah School of Medicine. Physicians are faculty of the University of Utah School of Medicine.
The mission of the center is to provide children with IBD and their families comprehensive, state-of-the-art clinical care, to improve the care of patients of IBD through research and quality improvement, and offer families the ability to participate in patient-oriented research in inflammatory bowel disease.
The Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is a cooperative program between Primary Children's Medical Center and the University of Utah. Outpatient clinics and diagnostic studies are performed at Primary Children's Medical Center and staffed by University of Utah pediatric gastroenterologists.
The Center uses a chronic care model to reduce or resolve symptoms, to optimize the child's growth, and to reduce the risks of potential adverse effects of therapy. The IBD Center also relies on input from other physicians, including pathologists, radiologists and pediatric surgeons, all of whom are experienced in caring for young patients with IBD.
