Primary Children's has a lactation specialist available in the hospital six days each week (Monday - Saturday) to assist breast-feeding mothers of inpatients and outpatients. The program is run by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Lactation consultants are experienced in helping mothers of babies with various birth anomalies to find ways to breastfeed. They also offer support and suggestions to mothers who are pumping breast milk for newborns currently too little or sick to nurse, as well as mothers of babies admitted with an illness who are not breastfeeding as well as they did before they got sick. The goal of the Lactation Consultation Service is to help mothers have enough milk for their child's needs and be able to nurse baby when the family goes home.
Service provided under the direction of Primary Children's Hospital.
