Monitored anesthesia care (MAC) is a type of anesthesia that will make you feel very relaxed. It reduces pain and the awareness of pain. It calms you and may put you to sleep, but does not cause unconsciousness. It will wear off quickly after a procedure.
Monitored anesthesia care is commonly used for simple procedures that can be completed quickly. The medication is given through an IV.
Some of the potential side effects include loss of memory of the surgery, breathing problems, anxiety, and nausea & vomiting. Be sure to talk to your doctor about possible side effects before your procedure.
