Alumni Comments

"Having recently applied for privileges in a rural hospital, I have come to realize the absolute necessity of having adequate procedural training in residency. I have witnessed recent grads of other programs be denied necessary privileges to work in our rural community due to lack of training, and it just makes me that much more thankful for the quality training I received at Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency." — Justin Abbott , Class of 2010

"I would very, very strongly recommend Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency. I cannot state how strongly I feel about this. The Residency Program is excellent (faculty, facilities, people involved, and education).

So far here, (as a first-year practioner in a rural area), I have done emergency crash c-sections, regular c-sections, many vaginal deliveries, treated more variety of Peds, women's health, and internal medicine than I can imagine. I also cover ER regularly, so see my share of trauma, etc., there. Certainly I did not see all of that during residency, but I can say I was trained to know how to find/get the information needed to do a good job and provide good patient care.

The beauty of the Utah Valley Residency is it will not force you to go any certain direction with your learning. Sure, there are the basics, but then you can forge your own way and get the training you want. It is available there. I love the program."
— Steve Embley, Class of 2010

"I was very well prepared to go out and practice outside of residency. I received a good foundation of medicine in all fields during my time in residency. I'm glad that we got to see a lot of pediatric patients in clinic and in the hospital because it has really helped me in practice. Almost daily I come across something in clinic and think: 'I'm glad I remember learning that from residency.'" — Kelli Hatch, Class of 2010

"There is a support, camaraderie and challenge at Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency that definitely has given me the skills and confidence needed to enter practice. We have a partnership model that allows us to participate in making decisions to better our practices and work with each other. Our community physicians are willing to teach. We have moonlighting opportunities that help to challenge and push you to the next level.

Intermountain HealthCare has used an electronic medical record for more than 15 years and is always working to improve the tools we have for good practice. Most importantly, what sets this residency program apart is the faculty. I can honestly say that each and every one of them are amazing physicians, and I always thought that if I ended up even somewhat like them, I would be a great physician. I went to medical school in New York, and interviewed all over the country, and didn't find anywhere else with so much to offer. Here, you will gain the experience and knowledge necessary to practice all facets of what truly defines 'Family Medicine,' and you will be ready to adapt to the every-changing nature of medicine for the future. You will not find a better place to prepare you!" — Jennifer Gilbert, Class of 2009
