What is HeartLink?
Over the years, researchers have discovered many factors that can contribute to the development of heart disease. Some of these risk factors are related to genetics, age, or gender – and therefore cannot be changed. Other risk factors can be eliminated or controlled through changes in diet, exercise and other habits.
If someone in your family is being treated for heart disease, we want you to know your risk, too. That’s why we created the HeartLink Program. HeartLink offers a risk assessment to family members of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Knowing your HeartLink risk assessment results can help you make healthier choices for your heart.
Screenings include waist circumference, blood pressure, blood glucose and a full lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and ratio of total cholesterol to HDL).
Who qualifies for HeartLink?
When a patient is diagnosed with coronary artery disease and is referred for bypass surgery, we will offer risk factor screenings to the patients’ first-degree relatives over the age of 40. First-degree relatives include the spouse, siblings and children.
What is the cost of the assessment?
There is NO COST for qualifying individuals. For all others, there is a $20 fee to cover the cost of testing supplies.
