Lactation consultants at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center are available to work with mothers who would need help as they begin breastfeeding. They are eager to answer questions and demonstrate techniques that can make the experience be as fulfilling as possible. New mothers who would like a consultation may request one through their nurse.
After a mother returns home, board-certified lactation consultants at A Mother’s Touch Lactation Clinic in Orem can help women continue to make the most of their breastfeeding experience — even if it starts off as a challenge. During an appointment, one of our clinic’s consultants will answer your questions, perform a recommended check-up, and ensure the breastfeeding health of you and your baby.
- Research has shown breastfeeding has numerous benefits for both the infant and the mother:
- Breastfed babies have fewer ear, nose, throat, and upper respiratory infections; less gas, constipation, and diarrhea; less risk of allergies, asthma, diabetes, and cancer and less risk of obesity in childhood than babies fed artificial formulas.
- Breastfed babies are calmer because of the skin to skin contact with mom and are more comfortable because of easily digested feedings than babies fed in other ways.
- Mothers who breastfeed have less bleeding after childbirth and lose weight sooner; have less risk of breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer; and have stronger bones for the rest of their lives.
