Practice Focus
|
I provide the following services: sport and exercise medicine from prevention to diagnosis and treatment, sport-related musculoskeletal injuries, cardiopulmonary and other medical issues related to exercise, eating disorder care, exercise prescription for the prevention and treatment of disease, and preventive care and wellness.
I am the Medical Director for Outcomes Research for Clinical Programs at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City. In addition, I practice Family Medicine and Sports Medicine with the Orthopedic Specialty Group at the Avenues Specialty Clinic by LDS Hospital. I am a Professor at the University of Utah in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.

I serve as Vice President for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and have held 2 terms of office on the Board of Trustees for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. I am on the Editorial Board for The Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, and I am Associate Editor for Current Sports Medicine Reports. I serve on the Exercise Is Medicine Task Force for the ACSM, and also on the American Heart Association?s Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism Committee.

I have authored many journal articles and textbook chapters on a wide variety of topics in sports medicine. My research interests lie in the areas of physical activity assessment and promotion, practice-based research in primary care, the Female Athlete Triad, and sports injury prevention.
When not seeing patients, I work at my treadmill desk, walking 1.2 miles per hours while working. It provides me the opportunity to walk upwards of 5 miles per day! In addition, I love to hike, ski and ride my bike with friends and family. My husband Jim is also a sports medicine physician, and we have 2 kids ages 12 and 10, along with a 60 lb chocolate lab who thinks she is a cat.
