Here are some basic tips for conducting research at Intermountain:

  1. Research projects must identify how the research will improve patient care or enhance clinical outcomes.
  2. Projects require prior departmental approval (where the research will take place) and in some cases approval of impacted facilities and service lines.
  3. All projects require a detailed Research Plan. This is also referred to as a protocol or statement of work. Login to iRIS​ to create and submit a project. Users must have an Intermountain LDAP login and password to access the application internally and externally. Call or e-mail the Office of Research to obtain a login. It is important to involve experts in the preparation and review.
  4. Plan ahead, consider consulting the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Privacy Board in preparing the project. IRB review and approval takes time. Submission deadlines are posted on the IRB website and applications are submitted online via the iRIS system.
