Life Flight, SLCo Search & Rescue and Trauma Teams Unite in Message
Memorial Day is synonymous with the beginning of the summer outdoor season. When tourists and residents head out to hike in Utah's canyons, and play in rivers and lakes throughout the state, the number of calls for search and rescue operation sky rockets. Many of the situations, and resulting injuries can be prevented. According to a recent study Life Flight, 71% of hoist rescues in Utah occur between May and September.
Salt Lake County Search and Rescue, Intermountain Life Flight and personnel from the Intermountain Medical Center Trauma Program respond to numerous calls each summer of injured recreationists from around the region. As the 2013 summer season approaches, these organization are coming together at Intermountain Medical Center to encourage Utahns and visitors to stay safe while enjoying the outdoor activities the Beehive State has to offer.
A patient who was rescued by Life Flight from a mountain in Weber County last summer will also be in attendance to share his story, about the lessons that he learned.
