Our doctors at McKay-Dee Dermatology and Plastic Surgery offer many types of cosmetic procedures. Botox is one of the procedures patients can access at our clinic. The cosmetic form of the botulinum toxin (also known by the brand names of Botox or Dysport) is commonly used to temporarily treat facial lines and wrinkles. Botox is administered by injecting the product directly into a certain muscle or muscle group on the face or body. The injection relaxes the targeted muscles and thereby reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Botox is most often used to treat frown lines, furrows in the forehead, and crow’s feet. It has also been found to be effective in treating excessive sweating.
What to Expect
Before receiving Botox injections, patients will have a chance to discuss the procedure with our Dermatologist in a free consultation. You may be asked to move specific muscles in your face to help determine where the injections will be administered. The injections are done with a very fine needle. Most patients find the process to be nearly painless. The procedure typically takes less than twenty minutes and there is no recovery time needed. Results are often visible within one week and generally remain for 3-6 months.
Preventing Botox Face
The Botox “frozen face” is the result of overly aggressive Botox treatments. These treatments tend to block not only the unwanted movements that cause wrinkles but also all facial expression. We feel it is important for patients to maintain natural facial expressions while still getting the treatment they desire. Our dermatologist will work closely with you to develop a personalized plan that will avoid undesired results.
Side effects for this procedure include dry mouth, discomfort or pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, neck pain, or eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids, swelling of your eyelids, and dry eyes.
Be sure you talk to your doctor about potential risks involved with Botox.
