Welcome Robert Hoesch, MD, PhD10/6/2013
Intermountain Medical Group welcomes Robert Hoesch, MD, PhD to the Neurosciences Institute. Dr. Hoesch specializes in neurology, neurocritical care, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. For the last few years, Dr. Hoesch has been Assistant Professor of Neurology and Chief of the Neurocritical Care Division at the University of Utah School of Medicine, in addition to serving as the Medical Director of the Neurocritical Care Unit. While at the University, Dr. Hoesch published a number of peer-reviewed research papers in the field of Neurocritical Care, served as principal investigator on several local technology development studies and international research trials, and mentored numerous medical students and neurocritical care fellows.
Dr. Hoesch attended the University of Maryland, College Park where he received his bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology and genetics. He then attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine where he earned his MD and a PhD in Cellular Neurophysiology. Dr. Hoesch spent the next four years at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, serving an internship and a three-year residency in Neurology, where he received several awards for clinical and research excellence and ultimately served as Chief Resident in Neurology. Dr. Hoesch then spent two additional years at Johns Hopkins completing a Neurocritical Care fellowship. During his fellowship, Dr. Hoesch held the position of Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, directed the Neurohospitalist service, and attended on the Adult Hydrocephalus service.
Dr. Hoesch is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties in the area of neurocritical care. He is also a member of the Neurocritical Care Society and the American Academy of Neurology.
