Teen Pregnancy

Babies born to teenage mothers have higher risks than babies born to older mothers for premature birth, low birth weight, other serious health problems and death. In addition, a teenage mother is at greater risk than women over age 20 for pregnancy complications, such as premature labor, anemia and high blood pressure. These risks are even greater for teens who are under 15 years old.

Unplanned Pregnancy

Women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy are less likely than women who have an intended pregnancy to obtain early prenatal care and their babies are at increased risk of both low birth weight and preterm birth.
