Are you a nice person - to yourself? Or are you your own worst enemy?
It's good to get into the habit of paying attention to the way you talk to yourself in your head. Many people are intensely critical of themselves, especially regarding physical appearance. It's not a good way to be - healthy bodies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
Is there a trash-talker living inside your head? When you look in the mirror, do you focus intensely on the parts of your body that you don't like so much - you're too tall or too short, you don't like your hair and you hate your soft belly or your big thighs? It becomes a vicious circle - if you don't appreciate your body for all the good it brings you, you won't take care of it. And if you don't take care of yourself, you'll neither feel good nor look good!
Next time you hear your inner voice say something negative about your body, here's what to do:
- Notice it. Just start with this - once you start noting your criticism, you'll probably be surprised at how often you put yourself down.
- What makes you feel good and encouraged?
- Tell yourself to stop! Catch yourself before you take the criticism to heart - tell yourself "I don't need to talk to myself that way."
- Now remind yourself - your body is yours. If you take care of yourself, you'll look and feel your best - so what's your plan for doing something good for your health right now? Use your insight to stretch...walk up and down the stairs a few times...or prepare yourself a healthy breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner.
