Salt Lake City Intermountain Praised for High Tech Medical Care
For the seventh time in eight years, Intermountain Healthcare has been named one of the nation's most technologically savvy hospital systems. Intermountain is the only Utah healthcare provider to be named to the 100 Most Wired hospital list by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association. "The designation is a great complement to our clinical information systems," said Bill Nelson, Intermountain's president and CEO. "But what really matters is how we use this cutting-edge technology to help patients. Intermountain's medical computer systems help us diagnose, treat, and understand disease in ways that save lives." Intermountain has been developing computerized health records sine the 1970s. Last year, Utah's flagship medical provider launched a new venture with GE Healthcare to jointly create the next generation of electronic medical records. The Most Wired survey looked at 1,255 hospitals around the country. "The nation's Most Wired are leading the way in applying business analytics to their IT projects," according the magazine. "The goal is to deliver value through improvements in quality, satisfaction, and patient care." According to the survey, Most Wired hospitals do a better job compared to other health systems: The 2006 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study is a joint research project of Hospital & Health Networks, Accenture, McKesson Corp. and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
