Salt Lake City For the eighth time in nine years, Intermountain Healthcare has been named one of the nation's most technologically savvy hospital systems. Intermountain is the only Utah healthcare provider to be named to this year's 100 Most Wired hospital list by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association.
"The designation is a great compliment to our information systems and the staff that helped develop them," said Bill Nelson, Intermountain's president and CEO. "But what really matters is how this cutting-edge technology is used to help patients. Intermountain's medical computer systems help us diagnose, treat, and understand disease in ways that save lives." The study of 1,284 hospitals found that the nations 100 Most Wired hospitals show better outcomes in several key areas, including lower mortality rates and adopting patient safety measures that lead to higher quality care. Intermountain has been developing computerized medical systems since the 1970s. Two years ago, Utah's flagship medical provider launched a new venture with GE Healthcare to jointly create the next generation of medical information systems for hospitals.
