Sandy, UT The future for Alta View Hospital, the only full-service hospital on the southeast side of the Salt Lake Valley, is bright. Having celebrated 25 years of service this year, Alta View has created a long-range master plan for its campus and services that stretches 30 years and beyond.
"We've been strategically planning ways to grow and expand to meet the needs of our community," says Becky Kapp, Alta View's administrator. "Adding services, facilities, physicians, and parking are our top goals beginning next year and well into the future."
Five specific campus upgrades and expansion projects are currently underway and on the drawing board, Kapp says. These include:
- A re-design of the emergency department. The department recently received several cosmetic upgrades including new paint, flooring, and furniture. Slated for early next year, emergency department patients will be cared for in private treatment rooms designed to improve privacy and clinical quality. Long-range master planning also includes a department expansion with an increase in square footage that will improve patient flow, Kapp says.
- A new medical office building will break ground on the north end of the campus in the spring. This building will house physician offices and an outpatient surgical center. The outpatient surgical center will feature two operating rooms and four endoscopy suites. By creating a separate building for outpatient surgery, patients will have increased parking and better access to outpatient services. Volumes of outpatient services such as surgery and endoscopy are increasing annually and account for a significant portion of the patient care offered on the hospital's campus.
- Also beginning early next year watch for interior cosmetic upgrades throughout the entire hospital. Crews will replace all floor coverings and apply new paint finishes to walls in common areas and patient rooms. New directional signage will also be installed to assist patients and guests in finding their way around the facility. A re-design of the nursing stations on the Acute Care Unit is also slated for early 2008.
- Alta View's radiology department recently added a 64-slice CT scanner that opens the door to new procedures while improving the imaging of existing ones. Cardiac and coronary vessel analysis and coronary artery calcification scoring are among the new exams the hospital is proud to offer. In addition, CT angiography capability enhances the diagnostic services available to the community.
- The hospital's Women's Center, which facilitates the birth of approximately 2,200 new babies each year, will remain serving women in our community throughout all the phases of their lives. New physicians are currently being recruited and the Women's Center will continue to offer birthing, surgery, and mammography services to female patients.
Other specialties offered at Alta View Hospital include orthopedics, plastic surgery, internal medicine, pulmonology, and sleep lab services. A 525-member medical staff of highly qualified, board-certified physicians continues to expand as our population becomes older and has increased demands for various medical specialties. Employees at the hospital are also highly skilled and long-tenured, many having worked there since the hospital doors opened in 1982.
"As a strong community partner, Alta View remains actively engaged in the Healthy Sandy Partnership, a coalition of Sandy area business, government, school, and community representatives whose mission is increasing the health and wellness of our community," says Kapp.
Healthy Sandy projects include free annual flu shot clinics at local Sandy fire stations, free and reduced-cost immunizations in area schools, dental care for needy kids, and much more. Alta View staff serve also on the boards of the Sandy Senior Center, Rotary Club, and the Sandy Chamber of Commerce.
