What are the qualifications of a certified nurse midwife?
A CNM is a registered nurse with years of specialized training who holds a masters degree in nurse-midwifery. CNMs have met national certification requirements, including a national board examination and have met Utah's healthcare provider licensing requirements.

CNMs are advanced practice nurses who are able to provide full care to women before, during and after pregnancy. The care provided includes prescribing medications and ordering epidural anesthesia for pain relief during labor, if needed. They also provide gynecologic care to women of all ages, including the years through menopause.

Should an at-risk situation develop, nurse midwives work closely with doctors in Maternal-Fetal Medicine to assure the highest quality of care for the new mother and her baby.
