Hospital administrators advance in professional organization

Provo, UtahMike Olson, administrator of American Fork Hospital, and Steve Smoot, administrator of Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, have advanced to Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

The ACHE is an international professional society of more than 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. To advance to Fellow status, ACHE members must have a masters degree, five years of healthcare management experience, 40 hours of continuing education credits and pass the rigorous Board of Governors Examination in Healthcare Management. They must also participate in healthcare as well as community and civic activities.

Olson has been the American Fork Hospital administrator since November 2004 and earned his master's degree from Arizona State University. Smoot has a master's degree in business administration from Brigham Young University and is just beginning his role as administrator at Utah Valley Regional. Prior to that, Smoot was CEO of Intermountain Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City.
