American Fork, UtahFamilies in Utah County are invited to American Fork Hospital's Community Health Fair on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. The free event will be held on the hospital's campus located at 170 North 1100 East in American Fork.

Sponsored by Intermountain Healthcare's American Fork Hospital, the event provides an opportunity for children, families and seniors to participate in fun activities, receive health screenings and visit numerous educational booths designed to teach important principles of health, safety, emergency and disaster preparedness, and injury prevention.

Topics of interest at this year's fair include good nutrition, dental hygiene, fire safety, and emergency preparedness. Family resources and information will be available from Utah County Health Department, Community Health Connect, Baby Your Baby, Immunization Clinic, American Red Cross, NetSmartz, and Mountainlands Community Health Center.

Activities for kids will include a bicycle rodeo, face painting, balloon art, and a bounce house and inflatable slide. American Fork City will be on site with a fire truck and ambulance for families to tour. Intermountain Life Flight will have one of its helicopters stationed at the hospital as well.

In addition, healthcare professionals will administer more than a dozen screenings and assessments. Most screenings are free; however, participants may elect to pay the discounted fees for the following tests: EKG ($5); prostate blood test ($15); full lipid panel that shows cholesterol and triglycerides (12 hour fast required; $15) and thyroid ($10). Payment can be made with cash, check or charge at the American Fork Hospital Cashier's office on the day of the event.

Community Nursing Services will be on-site to offer immunizations for children and adults. For children whose insurance does not cover immunizations or the child is uninsured, or enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP, or is American/Indian/Alaskan Native, the costs for shots are free for ages 0 to 35 months, and $5 for ages 3 to 18 years. Anyone else who would like to have immunizations may have them and their insurance will be billed.

Those who are interested in receiving a prostate blood test must get their blood drawn prior to the exam on Saturday. Blood work for any screening can be done in the hospital's Laboratory. Simply visit the Laboratory, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, between May 1 and June 6. Test results will be available at the health fair or by mail.
