Occupational Therapy
Job Description
Occupational therapists provide quality, cost effective occupational therapy services, including: consultation evaluation and ongoing treatments as well as education to patients and their families. All therapy services are provided in accordance with the state licensure laws, professional standards and ethics, and within the guidelines of the departmental and facility standards, policies and procedures. Occupational therapists use specialized knowledge to help individuals perform daily living skills and achieve maximum independence.
Earnings & Employment Outlook
- Full-time salary at entry level for an Occupational Therapist is approximately $45,000/yr.
- Employment opportunities for Occupational Therapists are expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations through the year 2014.
Education
- Length of program including clinical experience is 2.5 years after acceptance to Occupational Therapist School.
- To be accepted to the Occupational Therapist program at the University of Utah, the student must complete all of the admission requirements:
- Complete application with official transcripts and prerequisite course work of "C" or better.
- Minimum of 3.0 overall GPA.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- 2 letters of recommendation.
- 50 hours of direct contact with OTs in two different settings.
- group and individual interview for finalists.
- 24 students are accepted each cycle.
- Occupational therapy students obtain a masters degree in Occupational Therapy (MS, OT).

- Human Anatomy & Physiology
- Abnormal Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Advanced First Aid
- Anthropology
- Kinesiology or Biomechanics
- Sociology/Health
- Education/Special Education/Gerontology
- Technical Writing & Upper Division Writing
- Medical Terminology
- Studio Arts
