Occupational Therapist Assistant

Job Description
Occupational Therapy Assistants provide direct patient care under the supervision of an occupational therapist, to develop and implement occupational therapy treatment procedures, therapeutic activities, and life skills training. Occupational therapy assistants use specialized knowledge to help individuals perform daily living skills and achieve maximum independence.

Education
  • 15 students are accepted per year (Salt Lake Community College).
  • Requires 73 semester hours, full-time school.
  • Average length of program including clinical experience is 2 semesters/1 year for pre-requisites and 4 semesters/2 years in the technical program classes.
  • To be accepted to the Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) program at Salt Lake Community College, the student must complete the following:
    • High school graduation or equivalent.
    • Biology 1110 (Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology) with minimum grade of B within the past five years.
    • OTA 1020 with minimum grade of B or better within the past five years.
  • The following must be completed by graduation from the program:
    • Math Qualifications: one of the following with a C or better:
      • CPT 43 college math score within one year
      • ACT 22 math score within one year
      • MATH 1010

    • English Qualifications: one of the following with a C or better:
      • AP English credit
      • CLEP English credit
      • ENGL 1010 - Intro to Writing

    • Communication 1010
    • Psychology 1100
