St. George, UtahDixie Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that 11 registered nurses in the emergency department recently attained a nationally recognized credential in emergency nursing. Vikki Webster, Diane Mumford, Tina Coburn, Debbie Young, Jacque Dotson, Trudy Duisen, David Sedgwick, Steve Connolly, Melissa Hinton, Camden Parker, and Michael Hunt all passed the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) examination administered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing.
The CEN credential represents a commitment to state-of-the-art emergency care on the part of both the individual nurse and the hospital's emergency department. Emergency nursing incorporates a wide spectrum of patient care that requires highly specialized skills and extensive knowledge, as well as a unique ability to care for all ages of patients with illnesses or injuries ranging from very minor to extremely critical. The CEN examination evaluates a nurse's knowledge in the areas of clinical pathophysiology, patient care management, professional issues, environment, toxicology, shock, trauma, and medical emergency care.
"Our emergency department is committed to assuring physicians and nurses are current in national best practices," said Julie Gerth, manager of the emergency department at Dixie Regional. "Our patients deserve the best in clinical excellence."
