Garfield Memorial Hospital

Community Involvement

Garfield Memorial Hospital is actively involved in promoting wellness in communities within our service area, through the following programs:

Smoking Cessation & Prevention
Programs that support efforts to prevent children from acquiring the habit of smoking include:
  • Tokens Against Tobacco
  • Tar Wars
  • The Truth for Youth
  • Red Ribbon Week
  • Tobacco on Trial

Programs designed to encourage smokers to quit the habit include the Great American Smoke Out, a nationally promoted day to encourage people to quit smoking.

Awareness of the Consequences of Individual Decisions
One objective of Garfield Memorial youth education efforts is to create awareness among eighth-grade students through a program called Some Decisions Last a Lifetime.

A second program in Panguitch for K-12 students emphasizes a different personal character trait each month. Those character traits are publicized monthly on the Lion's Club marquee and printed on residential water bills.

Garfield Memorial Hospital continues to promote cardiovascular fitness for students attending Panguitch Elementary School through an on-going project that was implemented during the 2001-2002 school year.
