The Ethics Committee makes recommendations based on guidelines and values that govern medical decisions to help patients, family, friends, physicians and hospital staff deal with ethical conflicts that may arise during hospitalization. An example of an ethical issue is when a patient wishes to have treatment withdrawn and family members want the treatment to continue, even though the treatment is providing no benefit.
The committee is made up of a member of the hospital medical staff, other health care professionals, administration, clergy and members of the community. The committee can be convened quickly, in certain cases, to help meet the needs of patients and family members.
To arrange a meeting with members of the Ethics Committee, please contact Administration through the main hospital number during weekday business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm, at (435) 676-8811.
