Evaluating & Licensing Inventions

IAM helps physicians, investigators and other employees at Intermountain with the evaluation, protection and licensing of inventions that result from research or ideas generated at Intermountain. The process that IAM follows is complex and labor intensive. It is conducted for each invention or discovery that IAM is notified about by you, the inventor.

When a new invention is conceived an Invention Disclosure form should be completed and sent to our office. Details
IAM performs a preliminary analysis to determine whether the invention or discovery can be patentented or copyright protected; if the invention can be licensed; and what market benefits it may provide. Details
Taking certain steps to protect the intellectual asset is the best way to realize the potential value of an invetion or discovery. Details
IAM identifies, evaluates and contacts potential companies that may have an interest in licensing the invention or discovery. Details
Non-Disclosure Agreements require the parties keep all information confidential to anyone outside of their own employ. Details
Material Transfer Agreements
protect ownership in materials sent outside of Intermountain to other institutions, companies, or outside investigators. Details
Once negotiated, the license agreement formally grants the company the right to practice, develop and commercialize the invention. Details
To support and encourage additional research, IAM shares income received from license agreements with inventors, and their Intermountain department and facility. Details
