Intermountain Medical Center
The residency program of Intermountain Healthcare is an organized, directed, postgraduate training program in pharmacy practice. Training is provided in acute care, primary care, drug information, practice management and drug policy development. Rotation sites are available at four health care facilities: Intermountain Medical Center (IMed), Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC), McKay-Dee Hospital (MCKD) and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (UVRMC) as well as the Intermountain Healthcare Corporate Office.
Pharmacists completing this residency program will be competent and confident practitioners of direct patient care in multiple practice and patient care environments. They will be able to identify and resolve potential and actual patient-specific, drug related problems and will be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes as members of the health care team. These pharmacists will become skilled educators, both verbally and in writing, of health care professionals, students, patients, and the community. They will demonstrate professional maturity by independently following a personal philosophy of practice, monitoring their own performance, exhibiting commitment to the profession, and exercising leadership in improving the safety of the medication-use system. As highly trained professionals, these pharmacists will be well prepared to compete in today's job market.
There are eight Pharmacy Practice Residency positions. Though the residents will have access to rotations at all practice sites, for staffing requirements two residents will be based at each of the residency program hospitals.
The program consists of a minimum of 2000 contact hours in a variety of practice settings. The Program Director, Program Site Coordinators and the preceptors will assist the residents in selecting rotations to meet each individual's professional goals, the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Residency Standards and the ASHP residency learning objectives.
Following initial training, Rotations begin with core rotations in Acute Care, Ambulatory Care and Management. Six additional elective rotations are selected from the option listed below.
