The Transplant Program at Intermountain Medical Center began in 1983 at LDS Hospital when the first kidney transplant was performed. Due to the success of this program and excellent hospital support, heart, liver and pancreas programs were added in the 1985 and 1986. Since that time, over 3,000 patients have received transplants and Intermountain Medical Center maintains excellent patient and graft survival rates.
The Intermountain Medical Center transplant physicians have sought innovative techniques to increase the number of organs available to their patients. Intermountain Medical Center was among the first programs to recognize the feasibility of using subgroup A2 donor organs into other blood type patients, Good Samaritan Kidney Donation, and Deceased Cardiac Death Conation. The end result: shorter wait times for recipients as compared to other programs across the country.
Intermountain Medical Center is a leader in the field of organ transplantation because of their unique ability to provide excellent patient care before, during, and after surgery. They're committed to patients and community for their entire life, not just their stay in the hospital.
From social workers to surgeons, from nurses to transplant coordinators, we believe the best care is focused, supportive, and highly coordinated. And that translates into what they do best: saving lives.
Intermountain Medical Center is one of the Intermountain West's premier transplant programs. They have been honored nationally and continue to look for new ways to improve lives through organ donation and transplantation.
